Books for Tornado Victims

As we all know, southern parts of the United States were recently devastated by tornadoes. My husband is going to Alabama this weekend to help with clean up efforts and I was feeling a little left out because I never get to go with the work crews to help. I have small children at home and no one to watch them if I went. So this little idea of having a book fair to benefit the victims came into my mind. I blew it off thinking that it would never be big enough to make any kind of difference. Well, my heart won't let it go. And although I hope it will be a big success; even if I only help one family, I (and you) will have made a difference in that family's life.

Watching videos and seeing pictures brings back memories of when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. My husband and I were living in Kenner at the time and it was so heart breaking to see the communities that were devastated. It literally looked like a war zone, complete with military everywhere you turned. It just didn't feel like home and I couldn't believe that this happened the community that I love so much. Even today we can drive by some communities and my heart just sinks to see these still empty neighborhoods. So I know how these people are feeling about their communities right now.

So how can you help?
My goal is to get books out to these communities. With the tornadoes destroying many towns completely, there are so many families who need books for their children so they can stop worrying just for a moment and read a book with their kids.

So I created an E-Fair "Books for Tornado Victims." If sales reach $500, I can get 50% of the sales in free books for these communities. (under $500 I can only get 25%) I will cover the fee, shipping charges and taxes for the free books.

There are four ways you can help.

1. Buy books for your own family and 50% of the retail price will go toward free books for victims.

2. You can buy a book(s) to donate and send it to me. You'll be able to send it to the organization at check out. The books you buy will go toward the sales and 50% of the retail price will go toward free books. So it's like donating a book and a half!

or go to http://www.kidtasticbooks.com/ and click "Books for Tornado Victims" under active e-fairs to the right.

3. Or I have set up a Pay Pal account and you can donate money to go towards purchasing books. And that money will go toward the sales and 50% of the retail price will go toward free books. So if you donate $10, your donation is increased by 50%, so it's like you're giving $15!!

4. Spread the word to everyone! Remember! To get 50% in books, the total number of sales needs to be $500 or more. So please spread the word! Blog it, tweet it, post it on Facebook, email it! Get the word out!

As of right now I have the e-fair ending May 15th. I might extend it depending when my church's work crews are going out to that area again.

My goal is $1000 in free books. Will you help me?

Also if you are interested in selling Usborne Books, you can sign up through my website and because I'm in my Incentive Period (first 12 weeks), I'll get $50 in free books. I will donate that $50 credit to the book fund! (deadline is May 8th)

Update: You can "attend" my facebook event and invite all your friends to participate!
